            Car Wash for Cambodia!! 10/04/2008

We braved a windy, 10C/50F afternoon to wash cars in an effort to raise funds for foreign missions in Cambodia. The day was indeed cold, but the cause we were there for far outweighed any personal discomfort we may have delt with. Mom & Ian came in as well as Alexandra helped out. Leah and Jackie came by and stayed for 30min or so to help was some cars; and Lynette, Jillian, and Alletra also came by to help wash some cars. The McKenzie's came by to help for the afternoon and their efforts sure were appreciated. A bunch of youth from Faithworks were supposed to help out but they never showed? Hope they had fun at paintball.
I had a lofty goal of wanting $500 raised, yet I fell short, and the final total was $290.50. Still pretty good for 3 hours work. Thank you for all who helped out, and for all who contributed donations to our cause. We are one step closer to getting to Cambodia!

            the Fear of God 10/03/2008
            0 Comments

Jenny & I were listening to Rolland Baker while driving and he was speaking at a Mountain Of Worship conference last March. Much of his message was devote to a topic of which I've heard very little in the 7 years I've been a Christian. The topic was the Fear of God and his thoughts were based out of Psalm 90 which was written by Moses.
At least 98% of what I've been exposed to by other Christian teachers etc has been the Grace of God, which is not to be understated. But, like Rolland said, you never hear preaching on subjects like the fear of God, or hell, or judgement, in the renewal. Those teaching just aren't there. We want God to just show up at our meetings and give us a good time, without any accountability about what we do with those lengthy impartation sessions. If we actually gave out to the extent that God has given in, then what a weighty sphere of influence the Church would hold in America (or wherever); in fact we likely wouldn't need to rent stadiums and fill them with tens of thousands of believers and cry out to God for Him to do something, cause we would have the power and authority to take these issues and address them ourselves, with government actually heeding to the things we'd say! If, if, if.
But, we have not. We have used the grace and love of God against Him. There is now no fear (or even real reverence) of God in the Church, and the results of that are shockingly evident. No fear = no accountability. True love does indeed make us accountable, yet look around us; is what we're experiencing the true love of God?  Have we been good stewards of the things which God has entrusted to us? Of course not. The lackluster effort of Christianity in the world today has sickened the public and stained the Church.
Roland was also saying that there is nothing like the fear of God to purge our motives, and every thing else, to see if what we are doing is centered on Him and Him alone. Why do we evangelize? Why do we do missions? Why do we plant churches, and feed the sick, and pray for the brokenhearted? What exactly are our motives and what is the inward character of our hearts? When we lay our heads down at night, why have we done what we've done (if anything at all) that day? These are vital questions that we need to examine within ourselves.
Lets not understate the grace of God, but lets revere God for who He is, and the Holiness He possesses. Lets stop abusing God's grace, and make a difference.

            ភ្នំពេញ <-- 'Phnom Penh' in Khmer 10/02/2008

We tread on, here on PEI. Last sunday we were back at Faithworks Center for the first time since May. Pastor Bill had us come up and he and Debbie prayed over us, blessing us and communicating that the church was behind us and our life. That body of believers has been so good to me the past few years, its really unbelievable the freedom they have allowed me to grow. I pray I have been faithful to what they entrusted to me. It was good to see some friends again though. Now, we start trying to connect, one on one, with these awesome people.
Late saturday night (or early sunday morning, depending on your take), my grandmother passed away. She had not been well for a little while and age ended up getting the better of her. My brother and I were quite close to her and although I am sad for her passing, I have much joy that she is now in the literal, manifest Presence of Jesus Himself; wow, the Glory she now beholds! I'm kinda jealous.

Cambodia is turning more and more into a certain reality everyday. We have been in contact with two different ministries in Phnom Penh who want to connect with us:
The Cambodian Mission Outreach (working out of New life in Christ Church) is involved in a variety of ministry in Phnom Penh. They are led by Pastor Keat Kove and his wife Sally. They are interested in having us come over and "help in teaching English to the children and youth in our church." We are really excited to meet these two believers, who were both enslaved in a communist work camp under Pol Pot's regime. We look forward to some serious impartation.
Matthew & Nary McCullough are missionaries through Pioneers. They arrived in Phnom Penh two weeks ago and will be serving there long-term. While Jenny & I were visiting the Cuthill's last may, we mat Andrei, who gave us the McCullough's contact info. We emailed them, and now they are waiting for us to get into the country so we can connect and maybe do a little work together. Matthew will be planting churched and discipling believers when he gets a grasp on the difficult language that is Khmer (ភាសាខ្មែរ).
We have been reading up on Cambodia, and also making a list of things we will need for this upcoming venture. I got a new intl driving permit and Jenny got a great pair of shoes for a good price on Ebay yesterday, and we scored hugely at the Superstore in Charlottetown as well, buying over $100 worth of stuff for just over $20 at a clearance table! BLAM! We also need a new sleeping bag, and we're playing with the idea of purchasing a new tent. Immunizations are imminent, as well as some very costly airline tickets :(. The cheapest I've seen online so far is roundtrip to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam for $3400.
Pease pray for favor and guidance while seeking to get the lowest price possible for all these things. We would far rather use our finances to actually bless the people whom our hands will touch.
Oh Jesus, I pray we would follow your lead.
