It has been a busy, busy 6 days as we have gone from 9am - 9pm learning everything you could possibly imagine. I gotta give HH credit though, they make what could be a living hell of a week into one that is enjoyable. Lots of interaction and moving around kept us (especially me likley) from falling asleep over and over again. They put on the best orientation sessions that I have ever seen. I have learned much.
This evening we finish up staff traing and have a break until thursday, when the first batch of kids arrive for Session 1.
The video above is from our staff talent show last night. During training we pretty much run through what we will do at camp with the kids, and the Talent Show might be the climax. It is gonna be a busy summer, but a great one.
I have reunited with the wife, and we are settling in for a summer here at Double H Ranch. We are lucky enough to be able to room together, which will make things easier for everyone, scheduling wise. Jenny & I love to get up early and read the Bible and pray, etc. Something which is not in high demand around here. It is good we will have the early morning hours together to do this.
We are staying in Overflow, which is one of the cabins designated for staff lodging. My employment officially starts on tuesday, so there is a couple days to lounge and get accustomed to the Ranch again. We expect this summer to be a great one and are excited for all the awesome opportunities that God always seems to put in our path. We pray we are faithful, and good stewards of every one of those opportunities.
Heymans & I had a great day yesterday. I slept in while Heymans worked. Then he picked me up at 1pm and we cruised'er to St Catharines where we stopped in at the Scott St Manor. This was the nursing/group home where we did church all throughout Bible College. Things had changed, but not as much as they had stayed the same. Kay had passed on, and Susan had fallen a month or so ago and broken her hip. There were some new faces, and we got aquainted. It was a time of reminiscing and the sort. We love the Manor.
Then we visited the Karanfilis'. This couple is among my very favorites in the world. I lived with them during Bible College. Their son is 1.5 yrs old, and getting bigger by the minute! (On a side note, I also ran into Johanna, my other roomate at the time, while we were out at Joe Feta's!)
After that, we met up Pastor George and Marilyn Woodward and went to eat at Joe Feta's. It is always an insightful event to sit and pick their brains, and this time was no different. Russia's door seems to have creaked open a hair, and I'll give a push and see what happens.
Over all, it was one of the best daily visitation days of my life.
In a few moments, Heymans will pick me up and take me across the US border to the train station in Niagara Falls, NY. From there I will be off to Albany, where Jenny and HH await.
Today, Heymans and I will venture 542km from Winchester to Niagara Falls. The time here was a great break, and we look forward to the great people we will visit in the Niagara Region.
Time always seem to fly by much faster than we are comfortable with. That's life, I suppose.
Jenny has cruised to HH, and I will leave on tuesday to fly to Ottawa where I'll visit Josh Heymans, and then we'll drive to Niagara Falls and I'll take a train to Albany on the 13th. Camp certainly is fast approaching.
Pastor Bill called me yesterday morning and told me that a lady could not do her nursing home service, and asked me if I would fill in. It was another of those daily opportunities that we can either 'take' or 'deny'. I thought 'Sweet', so I drove in to Cahrlottetown to the Parkwest Lodge and met Pastor Bill. He gave the hour long service over completely to me, and I started some worship. I have much nursing home experience, so the service was a joy to perform. I spoke on many things like prayer, and obedience, etc. I love to share about Jesus.
Today will be a day filled with cleaning, packing, and running around. 4 days to go.
